Pampered under the ‘sun’

Pampered under the ‘sun’ - It may be the most relaxing way to spend an hour or two at the spa after a toxic day and treat yourself to a luxurious massage or a comforting foot spa while sipping a cup of tea amid a tranquil atmosphere.

Understanding this need, Suriya Spa recently opened its sixth branch in the heart of Ortigas to allow tired individuals living north of Manila to enjoy the wonderful treatments that promise to delight and pamper the mind and body…the Suriya way.

Nestled in the quiet environment of Frontera Verde beside Fun Ranch and opposite Tiendesitas, this two-month-old pampering haven is a contemporary stand alone facility especially designed for spa addicts

living in nearby communities (Valle Verde, White Plains, Corinthian Gardens, Meadowoods, etc.) who are looking for a new spa experience.

The look

Outside, visitors are instantly enticed by the structure’s striking black frontage that makes you wonder what’s inside.

Upon entrance, pretty attendants at the reception welcome you with a warm smile as they offer you Suriya’s menu that features an array of treatments uniquely tailored for all types of weary individuals.

But before you can browse through this "brown book" you will find yourself caught in awe of the building’s neat interiors.

The receiving area is roomy, coupled with a high ceiling accented with ambient lighting and suspended stainless steel fans.

This is matched with a 12-foot one-piece acacia wooden table in the center and an oil painting by renowned Filipino artist Susan Fetalveros-Roces.

Tastefully put together with a minimalist design, this particular Suriya Spa prides itself on having a unique facility that you will not find in other spas.

The biggest of all Suriya Spa branches, Frontera Verde carries a modern Asian theme (just like the other Suriya Spas) executed in a hotel-like setting.

It has 12 luxurious spa suites (three of which are for couples) all equipped with their own private Jacuzzi, leather reclining chair and foot spa, full-length wardrobe, rain shower and bathroom facilities, comfortable massage bed and lounge, and a vanity area.

This is complemented with a calming view of the courtyard garden to soothe the eyes and relax the senses.

It also has a separate steam room and sauna for men and women.

Exceptional services

"We want our guests to feel that they’re in a hotel when they visit our spa; that’s why we have spacious treatment rooms fully equipped with first-class amenities," notes supervisor Evitta Mendoza.

In addition, guests are rest assured that they’ll get only the best pampering services and treatments from Suriya Spa’s well-trained therapists.

All the oils and health and beauty remedies used in Suriya Spa are organic and are imported from different parts of the world.

After all, Suriya got its name from the word "su:riya" which is derived either from the Sanskrit word "sur:rya," meaning the sun. In the days of the Sinhalese (Sri Lankan) kings, names containing the word "su:rya" was conferred upon individuals for their exceptional services. Thus, the Malaysian owners decided to call their spa Suriya, which means the "sun of spa" or "a spa that offers exceptional services."

Pampering treats

Physically and mentally stressed individuals may try the 90-minute ayurveda massage done with slightly hard strokes that help all systems of the body recharge, and eases tension as it focuses on the subtle chakra (energy) points.

Those who want to experience something different can try the hot stone massage, which is an exotic treatment involving the placement of heated polished lava rocks on pressure and chakra points.

Other popular massages are the mind and body harmony massage, which uses Swedish techniques, and the oriental body work massage that combines shiatsu and Swedish techniques.

Apart from therapeutic massages, Suriya likewise offers skincare, detoxification therapies, slimming, and other beauty treatments designed to inspire clients to take wellness from the inside out into their own hands.

(The Suriya Spa is open Mondays to Thursdays from 11 am to 12 mn, and Fridays to Sundays from 10 am to 2 am. Other Suriya Spas are located in Glorietta 3, Intercontinental Manila, Hyatt Hotel & Casino Manila, Holiday Inn, Galleria Manila/Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, and Shatha Tower in Dubai.)
